How EPAT Relieves Musculoskeletal Pain

EPAT stands for Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Therapy, which explains exactly what the treatment entails. An evidence-based non-invasive technology approved by the FDA, EPAT makes use of a unique set of acoustic energy waves to treat musculoskeletal pain caused by muscle degeneration, poor circulation, injury, and overuse. By increasing the flow of oxygenating blood to the area and stimulating metabolism, EPAT speeds up the body’s natural healing process. EPAT has no side effects, poses no risk of infection, and leaves no marks or scars.

What You Can Expect

Just as in an ultrasound which also involves the use of sound waves, the doctor will first apply a layer of coupling gel to the area being treated. Then use a hand wand to disperse sound waves to the injured area, gradually increasing the intensity until he reaches the desired level. When the session is over, although the patient will be able to walk away without feeling dizzy or sore, it is recommended that he or she not perform intense physical exercises for at least 24 to 48 hours.

EPAT works well as a standalone treatment to speed up healing, restore mobility, increase circulation, and treat the source of musculoskeletal pain and injury. We also incorporate it into our regenerative joint restoration procedures, using it just before an injection and as part of post-injection recovery to enhance circulation to the area as well as cell signaling bringing the patient’s own stem cells and growth factors to the area being treated.
