Following are the answers to some questions our chiropractor frequently receives regarding the treatment method.

.

What Does EPAT Stand For?

EPAT stands Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology. This is a shockwave treatment that uses acoustic waves to go deep into the body's tissues to facilitate healing by improving blood circulation and improving other systems.

What Is the Recovery Time after an EPAT Treatment?

There is no recovery time or downtime associated with EPAT. Some patients may experience bruising or sensitivity around the treatment area, but it is not common. It is recommended not to aggravate the area that had the treatment unduly but normal activities should be fine. Don't run a marathon right after a shoulder treatment, but go ahead and sweep the floor if it is normal for you to do so.

What Conditions Are Treated by EPAT?

Shockwave therapy can effectively treat pain throughout your body. From the heel of the foot to the back and neck, this noninvasive treatment helps reduce pain and increase the body's healing abilities.

Is This Treatment Proven?

There is clinical evidence backing the therapy. It is also FDA-approved. It is not right for every patient, but if your chiropractor determines it is the right treatment for your situation, chances are the treatment will be highly effective in reducing your pain and improving your body’s natural ability to heal itself.

How Long Does a Session Take?

Each session takes between 10 and 15 minutes. You will likely see results after the second session but may see them as soon as the first. Depending on your condition you may need up to 4 sessions a week, for several weeks.

Does It Hurt?

Some patients report minor discomfort. Others report not feeling a thing during sessions. The thing to know is that it is non-invasive, non-chemical, and will quickly and effectively reduce your pain.
