PEMF FAQs

PEMF, Pulsed Electromagnetic Field, is a non-invasive, non-pharmacological, and highly effective treatment for many conditions. Its primary duty is to maintain general cellular health and function as well as promote it. Many people use it for pain management and to recover from lower back pain, muscle aches and pains, headaches, stress, and much more. We have helped many patients with PEMF here at Dr. Brian Petrie Chiropractic Inc. in Raynham, MA.

What Is the Purpose of PEMF Therapy?

The purpose of PEMF is not to cure or heal diseases directly. However, it does give our body a jump start to the natural healing process. It does this by providing the body several pulsating magnetic frequencies. This in turn creates an energy that is highly penetrating and that will result in a variety of healing benefits.

What Can I Expect During a PEMF Session?

Everyone has unique conditions or problems that require a unique treatment plan for them. The device has a variety of different intensity settings that allows an increase or decrease in its effects. This means that a person may experience various sensations. Typically, people have stated they have felt tingling sensations in the area of their old or existing injury. Others have experienced a sense of relaxation.

Should PEMF Not Be Used on Certain People?

Certain people should not use PEMF therapy. This is because PEMF is a magnetic field and should not be used close to or on any electrical devices, including defibrillators, pacemakers, cochlear hearing devices, etc. If you experience seizures or are prone to them, you should not partake in this therapy. Pregnant women or anyone who is currently undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment should also avoid PEMF.

Are There Any Adverse Reactions?

It is common for people to experience some level of discomfort since it is magnetic therapy. This is especially true for individuals who have just started treatment. Reactions usually occur about 5% of the time and are more common if the entire body is treated. If you do experience an adverse reaction, you should know that they are mainly temporary and mild.
