Chiropractic Care Types of Chiropractic care The frequency and duration of treatments to resolve a patient's condition varies with the individual patient. Some patients may seek relief from immediate pain and may only require a few treatments. Others may choose to integrate ongoing chiropractic care as part of their comprehensive health care. These patients make adjustments part of their routine health maintenance, similar to exercising regularly. The decision is always up to you, the patient. Active care Four types of active care exist – acute care, remobilization, reactivation and rehabilitation. While it may not be used, chiropractic adjustment is usually the primary treatment for all stages. Acute care is provided the first days following an injury. Intended to relieve pain, inflammation and muscle spasm, acute care may involve therapies such as ice, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, cold laser and Graston procedures. Remobilization involves restoring optimal mobility and flexibility to joints and muscles through spinal adjustments and muscle release techniques. Reactivation involves exercises and flexibility training. Scientific studies have shown that early introduction of these exercises facilitate rapid recovery from injury and prevents recurrences. Rehabilitation is the stage where coordination, strength and endurance are emphasized. To prevent recurrence of symptoms and re-injury, patients are thought to control symptoms through exercise and correct posture. Supportive care After active care has been completed, supportive care to address flare-ups and a brief follow up examination after six months will be performed. Of course, we are always available to you should you experience a period of symptom flare-up. Preventive Maintenance care Maintaining a healthy environment within the body is the key to feeling well and preventing disease, and good spinal health is an integral component of the body's defense system. Patients who receive regular spinal adjustments understand the whole body benefit of a healthy spine – the daily aches and pains experienced by others are only rare occurrence to those who receive routine preventive care. Such maintenance might only require a monthly visit. Conditions
